Genghis Khan means "Universal Leader".  He was born not as Genghis Khan, but Temujin, and he was given this title after he united all of the tribes in Mongolia. Through dominating the enemies in war, he started the largest contiguous land empire in history.

Thesis - In response to the death of his father, Genghis Khan set out to lead his people and unite them in the largest contiguous land empire in history. After his death his legacy was continued by his descendants who expanded his empire and continued into the 16 million people related to him in Mongolia today.
