{"id":5050,"date":"2017-02-15T22:06:22","date_gmt":"2017-02-16T03:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rud.is\/b\/?p=5050"},"modified":"2018-03-10T07:54:27","modified_gmt":"2018-03-10T12:54:27","slug":"ggalt-0-4-0-now-on-cran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rud.is\/b\/2017\/02\/15\/ggalt-0-4-0-now-on-cran\/","title":{"rendered":"ggalt 0.4.0 now on CRAN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m uncontainably excited to report that the ggplot2 extension package <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/hrbrmstr\/ggalt\"><code>ggalt<\/code><\/a> is now <a href=\"https:\/\/cran.r-project.org\/web\/packages\/ggalt\/\">on CRAN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The absolute best part of this package is the R community members who contributed suggestions and new geoms, stats, annotations and integration features. This release would not be possible without the PRs from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ben Bolker<\/li>\n<li>Ben Marwick<\/li>\n<li>Jan Schulz<\/li>\n<li>Carson Sievert<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>and a host of folks who have made suggestions and have put up with broken GitHub builds along the way. Y&#8217;all are <em>awesome<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Please see the vignette and graphics-annotated help pages for info on everything that&#8217;s available. Some highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>multiple ways to render splines (so you can make those cool, smoothed D3-esque line charts :-)<\/li>\n<li><code>geom_cartogram()<\/code> which replicates the <em>old<\/em> functionality of <code>geom_map()<\/code> so your old mapping code doesn&#8217;t break anymore<\/li>\n<li>a re-re-mended <code>coord_proj()<\/code> (but, read on about why you should be re-thinking of how you do maps in <code>ggplot2<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>lollipop charts (<code>geom_lollipop()<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>dumbbell charts (<code>geom_dumbbell()<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>step-ribbon charts<\/li>\n<li>the ability to easily encircle points (beyond those <em>boring<\/em> ellipses)<\/li>\n<li>byte formatters (i.e. turn <code>1024<\/code> to <code>1 Kb<\/code>, etc)<\/li>\n<li>better integration with <code>plotly<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you do any mapping in <code>ggplot2<\/code>, <em>please<\/em> follow the machinations of <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/r-spatial\/sf\/issues\/88\"><code>geom_sf()<\/code><\/a>  and the <code>sf<\/code> package. Ed and the rest of the R spatial community have done 100% <em>outstanding<\/em> work here and it is going to change how you think and work spatially in R forever (in an awesome way). I hope to retire <code>coord_proj()<\/code> and <code>geom_cartogram()<\/code> some day soon thanks to all their hard work.<\/p>\n<p><em>Your<\/em> contributions, feedback and suggestions are welcome and encouraged. The next steps for me w\/r\/t <code>ggalt<\/code> are ensuring 100% <code>plotly<\/code> coverage since it&#8217;s the best way to make your <code>ggplot2<\/code> plots interactive. There are a few more additions that didn&#8217;t make it into this release that I&#8217;ll also be integrating.<\/p>\n<p><em>Please<\/em> make sure to say &#8220;thank you&#8221; to the above contributors if you see them in person on on the internets.
